Hike in historic Dayton, Tennessee in search of the 80-foot Laurel Falls. This 4.7 mile, moderately challenging route begins at beautiful Richland Creek, follows the historic coal mining and coke operations, crosses Laurel Creek, and finally ends at the majestic Laurel Falls. Located in Laurel-Snow State-Natural Area, the Laurel Falls hike is steeped in history. The Dayton Coal & Iron company began a massive operation in 1877. After the mine closure in 1925, Dayton’s famous “Monkey Trial” brought attention to the area. The wilderness was purchased in 1945 by Wesley Gardner and sons, eventually leasing the land to Bowater Southern Paper Corporation for timber resources. In 1971, Laurel-Snow became Tennessee’s first designated National Recreational Trail. Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/c/TheKiltedAdv...
