A stage performance of Mongol Court Music of the Khans (蒙古汗廷音乐), a repertoire that dates back to the court of Ligdan Khan (林丹汗, r. 1603-1634), the last Great Khan of the Mongols (Northern Yuan Dynasty, 北元). Performed by the Mongol Khan Court Music Group (Menggu Han Tingyuedui, 蒙古汗廷乐队), which has more than 80 members. Filmed in Ar Horqin Banner (阿鲁科尔沁旗), Chifeng (赤峰市), eastern Inner Mongolia, northern China, c. September 7, 2012. The music and dance are based on a 15-chapter notated manuscript of Ligdan Khan's court music that was discovered in 1984 in Genpei Temple (根培庙, also known as Guangyou Temple, 广佑寺), located near the ruins of Ligdan Khan's palace, Chaganhaote (查干浩特), in Ar Horqin Banner (阿鲁科尔沁旗), Chifeng (赤峰市), eastern Inner Mongolia. This repertoire contains more than 80 distinct pieces. This music was valued by the rulers of the Qing Dynasty and, in May 1635 upon the Qing defeat of the Khanate, was absorbed and continued to be performed by the Mongolian division (Fanbu Hezou, 番部合奏) of the Qing court's entertainment music (yanyue, 宴乐) ensembles. In 2009, the tradition of Mongol Court Music of the Khans was included in the First Batch of traditions inscribed in Ar Horqin Banner's Banner-Level List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (阿鲁科尔沁旗旗级第一批非物质文化遗产名录). Additionally, in 2011 the tradition of Mongol Ligdan Khan Court Music (蒙古族林丹汗宫廷音乐), centering on Ar Horqin Banner (阿鲁科尔沁旗), Chifeng (赤峰市), eastern Inner Mongolia, was included in the Third Batch of the Inner Mongolia Region-Level List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (第三批内蒙古区级非物质文化遗产名录). Further, in 2014 the tradition of Mongol Court Music of the Khans (蒙古族汗廷音乐), centering on Ar Horqin Banner (阿鲁科尔沁旗), Chifeng (赤峰市), eastern Inner Mongolia, was included in the Fourth Batch of China's National-Level Intangible Cultural Heritage List (第四批国家级非物质文化遗产名录) by China's Ministry of Culture (中华人民共和国文化部, known since March 2018 as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 中华人民共和国文化和旅游部). The sub-agencies responsible for maintaining these lists, both under the aegis of the aforementioned ministry, are the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage (文化部非物质文化遗产司) and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center (中国非物质文化遗产保护中心, CICHPC).
