Can you become a K-pop idol if you're not Korean?
Today, K-pop companies recruit talent far beyond South Korea. Global auditions are held across North America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, while some applicants can begin the process online from home.
But getting the opportunity to audition is very different from becoming an idol.
At some auditions, years of singing or dance practice must be demonstrated in just 60 seconds.
And passing that first evaluation is only the beginning.
This video follows the journey an international applicant could face — from global auditions and trainee development to learning to work in Korean, competing for a group lineup, recording music, preparing choreography and finally reaching the possibility of debut.
We also look at why Korean entertainment companies are recruiting globally, including the growing international reach of K-pop albums and the role foreign members can play in reaching audiences around the world.
You don't have to be Korean to apply.
The real question is what happens after you do.
Thanks for watching.
