11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!” Romans 10:11-15 If MFBBC suddenly stopped reaching people outside our church, would our community notice that something important was missing? I. THE SCOPE OF THE GOSPEL v. 11 “ For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” A. The Gospel Removes Distinctions We must not decide who deserves to hear the gospel based on our own assumptions. Our responsibility is not to determine in advance who is worthy of hearing the gospel. Our responsibility is to make Christ known. B. The Gospel Opens the Invitation Who is one person you have unconsciously decided is unlikely to respond to the gospel? Let us never become a fellowship that enjoys God's grace while forgetting the people who still need to hear about it. If salvation is available to everyone who calls upon the Lord, then let us be willing to bring the message to everyone we can reach. If the gospel is for everyone, does that mean everyone will automatically hear it? II. THE SEQUENCE OF THE GOSPEL v. 14 “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?” A. The Hearer Must Receive the Message Christian love should be genuine. We serve because Christ has loved us. A missional church does not merely help people live better lives; it seeks to help people know the Savior who gives eternal life. B. The Believer Must Respond in Faith First, can I explain the gospel clearly enough that someone who knows very little about Christianity could understand it? Second, am I building relationships with people who need to hear it? A church can have sound doctrine and still become ineffective in evangelism if its members never communicate that doctrine to people outside the church. III. THE SENDING OF THE GOSPEL v. 15 “How will they preach unless they are sent? ” A. The Church Must Send Workers A missional church should regularly pray for workers, identify potential servants, equip them through Scripture and discipleship, and support them as they carry out the work God has entrusted to them. B. The Believer Must Share the Message We should also ask whether we are helping people outside our building encounter Christ and become disciples. Our worship should prepare us to serve. Our discipleship should equip us to make disciples. Our fellowship should strengthen us to reach others. Our giving should help support the work of the gospel. Our leadership should develop people who can serve beyond the church's present needs. Let us not settle for being a church that simply gathers. Let us become a church that goes. Let us not settle for being a church that knows the truth. Let us become a church that makes the truth known. Let us not settle for receiving the blessings of the gospel. Let us become faithful messengers of the gospel. Reflect quietly on three questions 1. Who is one person I will intentionally pray for and seek to reach with the gospel? 2. What will I do this week to help that person hear about Jesus Christ? 3. How can I help MFBBC equip, support, or send others to participate in God's mission? MFBBC must become a church that intentionally sends, supports, and shares the gospel so that people in our community and beyond may come to know Jesus Christ.
