Bechstein model 10 is one of our preferred models, with a lush tone and responsive touch. They restore well. If a model 10 has tight tuning pins, is not too worn and is in good playing order, then reconditioning is a good option as it will retain the original tone and touch. However, if the tuning pins are loose or it's very worn, then full restoration is probably the best option.
A problem to avoid with full restoration is to make sure that the action is not made heavier by heavy hammers or as in this case, springs that are too tight. The damper springs and but springs must function well but be as light as possible, otherwise playing the piano is hard work and the reconditioned one will feel better than the fully restored one!
