Three generations, one original Eames Lounge Chair

“To me, this is the epitome of good design,” says Dirt Design founder Scott Murphy, whose vintage Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman was passed down to him from his mother, who inherited it from his grandfather, an advertising exec who originally purchased it for his Manhattan apartment. “I think design really should last generations and generations. The history – his history – is all spoken through this chair.” Scott's Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman – the "start of his appreciation for great design" – takes up residence at his summer home on Shelter Island, an enchanting retreat that was part of the island's working waterfront in the 1920s.
