Every Iconic Synth Sound Explained (You've Heard All of These)

Every iconic synth sound explained — the supersaw, the hoover, the Reese bass, the wobble, the acid bass, the Juno pad, the DX7 electric piano, the G-funk lead, the orchestra hit and more — and how each one was actually made. Listeners can sort a song into a genre from about a quarter of a second of audio. That's why a single synth patch can drop you into one exact decade, one exact city, sometimes one exact field at four in the morning. Here's where every one of those sounds came from, the machine that made it, and the records that made it famous. Featuring the Roland JP-8000, Moog modular, Yamaha DX7, Native Instruments Massive, ARP Soloist, Minimoog, Roland Alpha Juno, Juno-60 and Juno-106, TB-303, Oberheim OB-Xa, Casio CZ, Fairlight CMI, the NES and the Commodore 64's SID chip. Plus the sounds behind Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder, Ferry Corsten, George Michael, Digital Mystikz, Dr. Dre, the Ohio Players, Joey Beltram, Larry Heard, Charanjit Singh, Josh Wink, Prince, Kevin Saunderson, Afrika Bambaataa, Art of Noise, Bruno Mars and Anamanaguchi.
