Godzilla vs. Perry Mason? The American Cut of Gojira (1954)

The original Gojira had great potential for success in the West, but interest in subtitled foreign films at that time was quite low. So, as a solution, the American distributors had the film reedited with new footage of Raymond Burr and changed the title to Godzilla, King of the Monsters! This alternate cut of Godzilla had every reason to go wrong, and yet, it somehow turned out to be not just successful, but brilliant.
