I'm back in the garden. After weeks away recovering from surgery, the cleanup starts today — I'll see how far I get. In this update: weeding the beds, Celestial Nights dropping her leaves for winter, a surprise open-pollinated hip on Lady X, how the supermarket-pollen crosses on Golden Celebration and True Gratitude are holding, and a round of mature hips ready for seed collecting — Desdemona, About Face, Full Sail, and Fun in the Sun. Plus what's still blooming: George Vancouver, a fading Sexy Rexy, and a hip high up on All Dressed Up. Seeds from the open-pollinated hips will be listed in my eBay store. I'm taking it day by day and protecting my hand — gloves on, no heavy lifting. Thanks for all the concern while I was away. I breed roses in my Staten Island backyard (Zone 7b) with one goal: can a backyard breeder create and patent an award-winning rose — done economically and sustainably? Thanks for sticking with me.
