How to Use Knifeless Tape with 3M 2080 Wrap Film | Tips & Tricks

Cutting directly on a vehicle’s paint is a risk you don't have to take. Safely cut through the film, even with the Protective Film Layer (PFL) still attached, for a flawless, damage-free finish. Key Knifeless Tape Tips: Practice: To ensure a clean line every time, practice the technique before applying to a vehicle. Surface Bond: Press the tape firmly to the body line to ensure the adhesive is fully bonded before laying the wrap film. The Runway: Always leave at least 6 inches of tape extending past the cut point to give yourself enough room to pull the filament. Get a grip: Fold the tape back on itself, pinch firmly, and use a quick, strong pull motion to release the filament from the carrier. Consistent Pull: Pull the filament at a perpendicular angle and at a steady speed in the direction of the tape line. Finishing: After cutting is complete and filament is free, remove the remaining green carrier from under the film and reapply the film with your hand or squeegee.
