They are linked by a land bridge bordered by Warparim Bay to the north and Besir Bay to the south. The island is located north of Raja Ampat, northwest of the Vogelkop Peninsula of New Guinea. It is separated from the twin island of Waigeo in the north by the very narrow Kabuy Strait. Here Waigeo encloses Kabuy Bay (Indonesian Teluk Kabuy) from west, north and east. Gam closes off most of the bay to the south, with the main entrance to the east of the island. A side bay of Kabuy Bay is Soemlamanjoko Bay north of Gam. To the east is Cape Kalbenet, the northernmost point of Gam. South of Gam are the islands of Mansuar and Kri in the Dampier Strait, and beyond the Strait Batanta and Salawati. To the west are the Fam Islands and Gag, among others. On Gam are the Desa Arborek, Kapisawar, Sawinggrai and Yenwaoupnor, which belong to the Meosmanswar District. The Desa Yenbeser in the Northeast belongs to the South Waigeo District (Waigeo Selatan). The archipelago forms the governorate of Raja Ampat in the province of Papua Barat Daya. Avinsea Homestay lies in the sheltered haven of Tanjung Putus, at the western end of Pulau Gam’s southern arm.
