Brian Lippman has been part of the Brazos Valley music scene since 1980, and on this episode of the BVLive.com Podcast, he joins Adam Drake and Jared Lane to look back on decades of music, legendary shows, and the places and people that helped shape the local scene. After opening Lippman Music in 1985 and running the store for 35 years, Bryan has seen just about every side of the music business. From helping local musicians find their footing to touring the country as a performer, he's built a lifetime of experiences, and he's got some incredible stories to go along with them. We talk about the venues that once filled Bryan and College Station with live music, the national acts that came through town, and what it was like to be part of the scene when artists like Garth Brooks, The Ramones, Willie Nelson, and Dwight Yoakam were making their way through the area. Along the way, Brian shares some unforgettable stories from years gone by, including a few road tales that you probably couldn't make up if you tried. But this conversation isn't just about looking back. We also talk about how the music industry has changed, why local venues and up-and-coming artists matter, and what today's musicians can learn from the generations who came before them. Brian even shares some advice for young musicians about learning their craft, listening to everything, and finding their own sound.
