Tughlaqabad fort is actually the third city of Delhi which was built between 1320 to 1325 by the first sultan of Tughlaq dynasty Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq. The Tuglaq dynasty was founded in 1320 by Ghazi Malik who was leter known as Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq. This was the third dynasty of Delhi sultanate after Ghulam and Khilji dynasty. Tughlaq Dynasty was the one which ruled for long among all the sultanates which ruled over delhi from 1206 to 1526. They ruled nearly for 94 years from 1320 to 1414. As far as the fort is concerned, this lends its name to the nearby Tughluqabad residential-commercial area as well as the Tughluqabad Institutional Area. Ghiyasuddin Tughluq also built the Qutub-Badarpur Road, which connected the new city to the Grand Trunk Road. The road is now known as Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. The entry fee for the Fort is Rs. 20 for Indians. In 1320, Ghazi Malik drove away the Khaljis and assumed the title of Ghias-ud-din Tughlaq, starting the Tughlaq dynasty. He immediately started the construction of his fabled city, which he dreamt of as an impregnable, yet beautiful fort to keep away the Mongol marauders.
