Dr. Deborah Domingue of the Planetary Science Institute explores what happens when a space mission encounters results that challenge its original assumptions. Drawing on discoveries from NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission and Japan’s Hayabusa2 spacecraft, Dr. Domingue discusses how scientists adapt to unexpected findings, revise their models, and make critical decisions while a mission is underway. Dr. Domingue is a senior planetary scientist with decades of experience studying asteroids, comets, the Moon, and other airless bodies. Her work includes spacecraft instrument operations, data analysis, mission planning, and participation in NASA mission science teams. Presentation begins at 00:20:08.
