Trulshik Rinpoche (1923–2011) was a highly revered Nyingma master, head of the school (2010), and a root teacher to the 14th Dalai Lama, known for leading the annual Mani Rimdu festival in Nepal. He is famously featured in the 1985 documentary Lord of the Dance – Destroyer of Illusion, which chronicles his role in the sacred, symbolic masked dances and meditations. "Lord of the Dance": Trulshik Rinpoche is associated with the Thukjé Deshek Kundü (The Gathering of the Compassionate Ones), a form of Avalokiteshvara known as the "Lord of the Dance". He directed the sacred Mani Rimdu festival at Chiwong Monastery, where he presided over the dance-dramas representing the deity's power.
