It is bounded to the north by the River Liffey, to the east by Chapelizod [   • Chapelizod Buses | July 2023  ], to the south by Ballyfermot [   • Ballyfermot Buses | September 2023  ], and to the west by the M50 motorway and the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre [   • Liffey Valley Buses | April 2025  ]. Passing through the middle of Plamerstown is the main road between Dublin and the west of Ireland, leading to places like Mullingar [   • Mullingar Buses | June 2025  ], Galway [   • Galway Buses | July 2025  ] and Sligo [   • Sligo Buses | September 2025  ]. All of this means a variety of different bus routes pass through the area, ranging from local city services to regional services to long-distance services Plamerstown is one of the areas of Dublin where the city services have had the full raft of Bus Connects changes. In 2021 the Lucan Road routes were changed to become the C-Spine. Two years later in 2023 the orbital routes in the area were altered, and route 18 was removed from the network. The initial plan had no bus replacing it on the Old Lucan Road, but instead a new route L55 was introduced running between the Old Lucan Road and Chapelizod going via Ballyfermot. At its eastern end this route was also a partial replacement for route 76. Finally in 2025, route 26 was replaced by route 80. Although the new routing on the eastern end still has to be done, the routing through Chapelizod is the final version. Bus Eireann and Go-Ahead Ireland regional routes to Enfield, Mullingar, Newbridge and Edenderry pass through Palmerstown, though don't stop there. They serve a bus stop on the N4 road at Liffey Valley instead. Aircoach, Citylink, Dublin Coach and Expressway long-distance services pass through Palmerstown on theirw way to places such as Castlebar, Cork, Ennis, Galway, Tralee and Waterford.
