BIG September Pike in Colorado

September is when Colorado pike get mean. This one taped out at 39.5 inches. A full day on the water from a hand-launch boat — no big rig, no motor, just paddling weed edges and drop-offs with big baits and seeing what wanted to eat. Good action all morning, a slow middle stretch that forced a change, and then the fish I came for. Fishing high-country Colorado water from a paddle craft is its own discipline. You cover less ground, the wind dictates your day, and you get maybe one shot at a fish before you've pushed water over it. The tradeoff is that you can park on a weed line for an hour and never spook a thing. In this video I walk through what's working this time of year, including a couple little-known secrets.
