Hard Winter Prep: Cutting Firewood in the Mountains with My Mom

Preparing for a harsh mountain winter is hard physical work, especially as the first autumn frosts arrive (-1°C). Today, my elderly mom Anastasia and I spent the day harvesting firewood in the mountains to keep our home warm. We started our day early in the barn, milking our cow Łasunia and caring for our growing calf. After finishing our morning routine, we headed out to chop firewood. I felled a large birch tree, cleared the thick branches, and cut heavy logs, while Mom helped hold the wood on the steep slope and gathered brushwood. Before frost damages our crops, we also harvested the last melons and squashes from the garden. Later, deep in the forest, we joined my brother and neighbor to pull and saw large timber with a tractor. Thank you for watching and supporting our Carpathian homestead life!
