Anthropogenic intensification of short-duration rainfall extremes-Prof. Hayley Fowler (Newcastle U)

Recording of BHS National 'Future Hydrology in a Changing Environment' Webinar from Wednesday 25th November 2020 given by BHS President-Elect Prof Hayley Fowler from Newcastle University. There has been a recent surge in studies which aim to understand short-duration rainfall extremes, due to their impacts on flash floods, landslides and debris flows and the potential for these to worsen with global warming. This has been led over the past six years in a concerted international effort by the INTENSE crosscut of the GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Exchanges) Hydroclimatology Panel. This seminar will present a summary of the findings of INTENSE and considers the gaps that remain in understanding the potential impact of climate change on short-duration rainfall extremes.
