All the Stars | Kulgoodah Dancers & Andrew Toby | Commonwealth Games 2018

Filmed at **Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach, Queensland**, during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games celebrations, this short film captures a wonderful moment of dance, culture and community participation. Led by Indigenous choreographer *Andrew Toby**, members of the **Kulgoodah Dancers from Woorabinda* first perform the choreography before Andrew opens the experience to the wider community. Children and adults are invited to join him, learn the movements and discover how the choreography brings together elements of contemporary and hip-hop movement with traditional dance. The film then follows the workshop as the participants learn the routine before coming together to perform it — professional dancers and members of the public sharing the same space, music and experience. There was something particularly joyful about watching people who had simply come along to the Commonwealth Games celebrations suddenly become part of the performance themselves. Original film footage and edit. All rights reserved. Producers comment: One thing I particularly like about this film, is that **the second half gives the first half a purpose**. It isn't merely footage of professional dancers performing. Andrew actually transfers the choreography to ordinary people—children and adults—and then they *do it*. That makes it a lovely little record of cultural participation and community at the Commonwealth Games rather than simply another performance video.
