Chronic hepatitis B and C are caused by hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus respectively. The former is DNA virus and the latter is RNA virus. Hepatitis B virus enters the nucleus of host’s hepatocyte and resides over there permanently, whereas hepatitis C virus lies in the cytoplasm of the host’s hepatocyte. Therefore, we can eradicate hepatitis C virus, but only control or supress hepatitis B virus. Directly Acting Antiviral Agents (DAAs) are the current treatment for hepatitis C, which are given for defined duration – 8 to 12 weeks (and may be 24 weeks) depending upon the patient’s disease and hepatic status as well as anti-viral agent. Oral therapy including Entecavir and Tenofovir (TDF & TAF) are the treatment of choice for chronic hepatitis B; Injectable therapy of Pegylated Interferon is rarely used nowadays. By and large, lifelong antiviral therapy is required in case of chronic hepatitis B. Antiviral therapy for hepatitis C is given to each and every patient, except if there is very poor health status or if its pregnant lady or lactating mother. Antiviral therapy for hepatitis B is given only if there is clear indication depending upon patient’s hepatic status, viral load and serum ALT levels. #fattyliverdisease #hepatitis #cleanliver #health #personaldevelopment #worldtravel #drjavediqbal    • How & When to Treat Chronic Hepatitis B | ...      • Chronic Hepatitis C: How & When to Treat |...      • Liver Cirrhosis: How may it be prevented |...   ہیپاٹائٹس بی    • Metabolic Health Diseases   ہیپاٹائٹس سی    • Public Awareness
