Julius Berger Innovation Challenge

What happens when an industry opens the door for young people to solve the problems of tomorrow? Innovation gets a chance to become transformation. The Julius Berger Innovation Challenge (JBIC) represents a forward-thinking commitment to positioning Nigeria’s next generation of leaders to contribute to innovation-driven and sustainable national development, particularly within the construction and built environment sector. Through the partnership between Julius Berger Nigeria and Enactus Nigeria, university students were challenged to look beyond the classroom and develop solutions to real challenges across Nigeria’s construction value chain. With the support of the Green Building Council of Nigeria, the challenge created an environment where students could explore solutions around: 🌱 Sustainable construction ♻️ Waste reduction and circularity 🏗️ Sustainable materials and building practices ⚙️ Smarter construction processes 💡 Technology-driven innovation And at the just-concluded competition, Nigerian students rose to the occasion. They demonstrated once again that Nigeria’s young people possess the creativity, ingenuity and problem-solving capacity required to tackle some of the country’s most complex challenges. The standout achievement came from Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), whose robotic innovation ALTAR emerged as the first-place winner of the Julius Berger Innovation Challenge. But JBIC is about more than identifying a winner. It is about creating a pipeline of young Nigerians who can move from students to innovators, from ideas to solutions, and from classrooms to industries. Because the future of sustainable construction will not be built by infrastructure alone. It will be built by people bold enough to reimagine how we create it. And Nigeria’s young innovators are ready to build. Watch the full video on our EnactusNigeria YouTube channel to learn more about this inspiring event!
