This week's Christmas audio tool is the Gate. Or, Noise Gate. This is a dynamics processor that attenuates (or decreases, generally) an audio signal BELOW a given threshold. So basically, any audio you DO NOT want to hear, set the threshold above those signals and the gate will shut them off. Similar to how a gate in your yard keeps your neighbors out, an audio (or noise) gate keeps unwanted audio out. Now, this is different from noise removal because it acts on ALL frequencies in the signal. Effectively silencing your audio below the threshold you designate.
