Some areas have reportedly experienced blackouts lasting up to 48 hours, leading to growing frustration and protests. President Adama Barrow has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and says the government is working to increase electricity generation. The government has announced an additional 24MW generation unit expected by the end of October, along with plans for a 50MW solar power plant. NAWEC has pointed to rising electricity demand, fuel and regional power-supply challenges, as well as technical problems affecting generation.
