What Is Sin? | The Byzantine Catholic Understanding of Sin

What is sin, and what does it actually do to us? In this episode, we explore the Byzantine Catholic understanding of sin and how the Christian East approaches sin, repentance, healing, and our relationship with God. Is sin simply breaking God’s law? Why does the Byzantine tradition often speak about sin in terms of sickness, wounds, and spiritual death? What does it mean to repent? And how does Christ heal what has been broken by sin? We also touch on salvation and some of the different theological language and emphases found in the Byzantine and Latin traditions of the Catholic Church. Although Eastern and Western Catholics share the same Catholic faith, their theological traditions can emphasize and express certain mysteries differently. Understanding those differences can give us a deeper appreciation for the richness of the Catholic Church.
