swear down, been at it since dinner.
She’s been parked up in that chair since the early afternoon,
Acrylics going on while that playlist fills the room,
Girl behind her working quiet, taking time to get it neat,
Colour coming up like nothing else you’d catch out on our street.
Phone propped against the counter and it’s lighting up non-stop,
She’s not picking up for nobody till the girl has done the lot.
She’ll take as long as she takes and I’ve learned not to rush her,
Keys in hand, half past eight, and she’s still upstairs doing summat.
Back home, she’s on the settee with a mirror on her knee,
Hair down and lashes done, but she was gorgeous anyway to me,
Asks me what I reckon though she knows she’s looking sound,
Just needs to hear me say it ‘fore she’s heading into town.
Taxi’s sat there idling and the driver’s getting restless,
She’s running one more check and swears to me she’s nearly ready, bless her,
Coat on door pulled shut, down them steps and straight inside,
Catching her own reflection in the window on the ride.
Give it twenty minutes she’ll be stood there with the lights across the floor,
Everybody clocking her not one of them aware what for.
And yeah she’s gorgeous, anyone with eyes could tell you that,
But the bit they never see is all the hours where she sat.
I know what went into it the hours that it took,
And she’d never say it out loud but she’s proud of how she looks.
She’ll take as long as she takes and I’ve learned not to rush her,
Keys in hand, half past eight, and she’s still upstairs doing summat.
Done proper... yeah.
Took her all day, mind.
Worth it, though.
