How is the Ducati 1199 Panigale already 14 years old?! Back in 2012, Ducati completely rewrote the superbike rulebook. With 195bhp, revolutionary chassis design, cutting-edge electronics and styling that still looks incredible today, the 1199 Panigale was unlike anything Ducati had built before. But somewhere along the way, the 1199 developed a reputation for being a bit of an animal. Aggressive, unforgiving and a handful to ride fast. So was the Ducati 1199 really as wild as we remember, or was it simply WAY ahead of its time?! I've taken my 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale to Cadwell Park with No Limits Trackdays to find out. As a former motorcycle racer, I'm interested in how the original Panigale stacks up against modern superbikes. With no IMU, no cornering ABS, no wheelie control and no autoblipper, surely 195bhp around Cadwell Park should be a fairly entertaining experience? Except... it surprised me. In this video, we explore the 1199's controversial reputation, its groundbreaking technology, how the Panigale has developed over the last 14 years and, most importantly, what it's actually like to ride hard on track in 2026. Has superbike development really moved on as much as we think, or did Ducati get more right in 2012 than we give them credit for? Let me know in the comments: Was the 1199 Ducati's finest Panigale, or have the newer bikes genuinely improved the formula?
