Welcome to Module 5 of CSIS 090: Artificial Intelligence Jumpstart at Grossmont College!
I'm Andre Andersen, your instructor. In this video, I'll introduce you to Module 5, where we'll explore how AI can help analyze documents, interpret visual information, and organize professional project records.
You'll take on the role of a property manager working with fictional homeowners associations (HOAs). Using AI, you'll review vendor quotes, invoices, receipts, photographs, and project notes to prepare accurate documentation.
This module emphasizes a critical workplace skill: distinguishing what the evidence actually shows from what someone claims or what remains unverified.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
• Computer Vision: Understand how AI examines images and visual information.
• Document Analysis: Extract important information from project records.
• Financial Review: Compare vendor quotes, invoices, and material receipts.
• Evidence Verification: Distinguish observations from vendor statements and unsupported assumptions.
• Project Documentation: Organize records into a useful, professional packet.
• Human Review: Verify names, amounts, dates, and outstanding work before accepting AI-generated results.
MODULE 5 ACTIVITIES AND ASSIGNMENT
You'll complete four connected activities and one independent assignment.
GUIDED ACTIVITIES: MAPLE COURT HOA
Your first project involves documenting a community-room smart thermostat replacement.
Activity 1: Set Up the Project and Understand the Quotes
Create an AI project, examine vendor proposals, and understand the board's documented selection.
Activity 2: Read the Invoice and Receipt
Review financial documents, identify what was billed, and distinguish material purchases from additional charges.
Activity 3: Separate What You See from What You Are Told
Analyze photographs and vendor notes while identifying information that has not been verified.
Activity 4: Create a Project Documentation Packet
Prepare a professional project report and organize the supporting records.
INDEPENDENT ASSIGNMENT: CEDAR GROVE HOA
Assignment 1: Cedar Grove HOA Project Documentation Packet
Apply your skills to a courtyard fence-and-gate project. Review the supplied records, identify important information, and assemble one accurate documentation packet.
The primary submission is a reviewed PDF packet. A Canvas Text Entry alternative is available when the required PDF operation cannot be completed.
RECOMMENDED READINGS (OPTIONAL)
Chapter 8: Computer Vision and Facial Recognition
Chapter 9: Self-Driving Vehicles, Robotics, and Smart Machines
Both chapters are optional but recommended.
AI PULSE ISSUE #5
Examine a current AI development, share your observations, and respond thoughtfully to a classmate.
GETTING STARTED
Open Module 5 in Canvas and begin with M05: Overview.
Complete the Maple Court HOA activities before beginning the independent Cedar Grove HOA assignment.
Remember that AI can describe a photograph or summarize a document, but it cannot automatically verify workmanship, equipment functionality, or payment authorization.
Your responsibility is to document what the evidence supports.
No paid AI subscription is required. If you have questions, contact me through Canvas Inbox.
AI Assists. You Decide.
I'm looking forward to seeing the careful, professional work you create!
