Ernawan - Bringing openSUSE into the Classroom

As a teacher or educator, I often meet fellow educators who are interested in technology but hesitate to try Linux or open source software. Some worry that it will be difficult to learn, while others are concerned about compatibility with their daily work at school. Through several training sessions with high school teachers, I have had the opportunity to introduce openSUSE and other FLOSS applications in a practical and approachable way. Rather than focusing on technical details, the workshops emphasize how open source tools can support everyday teaching tasks, from preparing learning materials and school documents to creating simple educational media. In this talk, I will share lessons learned from these experiences: the questions teachers frequently ask, the challenges they encounter when using Linux for the first time, and the strategies that help build confidence and curiosity instead of fear. This session is intended for educators, community members, and open source advocates who want to encourage wider FLOSS adoption in schools. I hope to show that openSUSE can be a practical and accessible starting point for teachers exploring open source technology.
