How to Improve Your Garden Soil Over Winter

Using rye for soil protection is a simple way to keep your raised garden beds healthy and weed-free throughout the winter. I have been struggling with weeds taking over my garden after clearing out my final harvest. It is frustrating to see them sprout up so quickly, so I am testing rye as an effective method for weed control. First, I am clearing out the remaining debris to give the soil a clean start. By planting cover crops, I can improve the quality of my backyard dirt while keeping the surface covered during the colder months.
