I’ve ridden it six or seven times over the past 10 years, but the last thing I ever wanted was to ride Route 1149 in weather conditions like these. Coming from Mae Sai, the weather didn’t look too bad at first. But after passing the Dan Pa Sak checkpoint, things quickly deteriorated. Conditions became particularly challenging around Doi Pha Mi and Pha Hee villages, where steep switchbacks, heavy rain, and potholes made the ride even more difficult. To make matters worse, the K16 cooler tank started leaking, causing the bike to overheat. Along the way, we were stopped at four military checkpoints. The soldiers photographed our passports, recorded our licence plate numbers, and even took our mug shots. The funniest moment came when a van driver asked his passengers to get out and walk up a particularly steep hill because his vehicle simply couldn’t generate enough traction to make it to the top. This video was filmed on October 15. No music, no special audio, no visual effects—just plain, raw ride footage showing exactly what the journey was like.
