Ovechkin Announces Final Season, Larkin Set to Debut, Flyers Struggles, and More ft. Greg Wyshynski

On today’s episode of The Sheet, Jeff Marek and Greg Wyshynski react to the major announcement that Alex Ovechkin will retire at the end of the season, reflecting on what Ovi has meant to the NHL, the impact he’s had on the sport, what his legacy will ultimately look like, and what the league will miss when one of the greatest goal scorers of all time steps away. Jeff and Greg also run through the biggest stories from around the NHL, including Gavin McKenna skipping recent optional skates before returning to the ice ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ matchup with the Nashville Predators, and just how high the panic level should be among Leafs fans following a 1-2 start. They also discuss Dylan Larkin preparing to make his season debut for the Detroit Red Wings while trade speculation continues, the latest on Simon Edvinsson reportedly preferring a trade and where that situation could ultimately lead, and the ongoing stalemate between Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets. Plus, the Ottawa Senators’ 2-0 start, Ivan Demidov being sidelined for 2-4 weeks, Macklin Celebrini missing last night’s game with a lower-body injury, and plenty more from around the NHL.
