🚗 GT FRAMEWORK: THE WHEEL CLEANING PROCESS In this episode of the GT Framework, Jonny is joined by Maz from Garage Therapy to break down the complete wheel cleaning process on a BMW X3 that hasn’t been washed for a couple of months. The wheels are heavily contaminated with brake dust, road film and built-up dirt, so rather than immediately reaching for the strongest chemical possible, we look at a safer chemical-first approach and show just how much cleaning can be achieved through the right combination of chemistry, dwell time, agitation and technique. Starting with GT Decon Shampoo at 1:10, the wheels are pre-treated while cool and dry to allow the high-alkaline detergent to penetrate the dirt film before pressure rinsing. We then introduce GT Iron Oxide fallout remover to attack the remaining iron contamination and help break down old tyre dressing, alongside GT Wheel Shampoo in a dedicated wheel bucket for additional cleaning power and lubrication. Throughout the video we cover: • How to safely pre-treat heavily contaminated wheels • Why you don’t always need to reach straight for an acid wheel cleaner • Why working one wheel at a time can help prevent chemicals drying • How dwell time affects the cleaning process • Why short, sharp agitation works when scrubbing tyres • How to use a soft detailing brush around spokes, wheel nuts and tighter areas • Why we rinse before moving on to cleaning the wheel barrels • How rotating your wheel tool exposes a cleaner section to the surface • Why regularly returning your tools to a dedicated wheel bucket helps remove contamination • How the GT Wheel Mitt gets behind spokes and into areas conventional mitts can struggle to reach • Why maintaining wheels regularly allows you to use less aggressive methods in the future The key message throughout the video is simple: Let the chemicals do as much of the work as possible, then use safe mechanical agitation where it’s actually needed. We also discuss working outdoors in changing conditions, keeping chemicals from drying on the surface, checking that wheels and brakes are cool before starting and why good detailing practice should always come before simply reaching for a stronger chemical. 🛒 SHOP THE PRODUCTS & TOOLS FROM THE GT WHEEL CLEANING PROCESS https://bit.ly/m/garagetherapychannel Products & tools featured: GT Decon Shampoo GT Iron Oxide GT Wheel Shampoo GT Wheel Mitt GT Wheel Bucket GT Ultra Soft Detailing Brush GT Tyre Brush GT Tyre Serum GT Tyre Dressing Applicator ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Introduction – BMW X3 Wheel Cleaning 0:53 A Safer Chemical-First Approach 1:56 Working Safely in Changing Conditions 3:49 Starting the Wheel Cleaning Process 4:21 Pre-Treating with GT Decon Shampoo 5:01 Decon Shampoo 1:10 Dilution 5:57 GT Wheel Shampoo & Wheel Bucket 6:39 Dwell Time & Pressure Rinsing 8:38 GT Iron Oxide Fallout Removal 10:17 Tyre Cleaning & Agitation Technique 12:07 Cleaning the Wheel Faces & Spokes 13:55 Why We Rinse Before Cleaning the Barrels 14:54 Cleaning Wheel Barrels & Rotating Your Tools 16:30 Cleaning Behind the Wheel Spokes 17:12 The GT Wheel Mitt – Design & Technique 20:50 One Wheel at a Time & Avoiding Chemical Drying 22:28 Using the Right Chemical for the Job 22:54 Finishing the Wheel Cleaning Process If you enjoyed the discussion, make sure to like, comment, and subscribe for more detailing insights, product deep-dives, and live discussions. 📲 FOLLOW GARAGE THERAPY 🔔 Subscribe to stay updated on new episodes! 📲 Follow us on Instagram: /garage.therapy.channel 📘 Facebook: /garagetherapyuk 🌍 Visit our website: https://www.garagetherapy.co.uk 🛒 Shop our products: https://www.garagetherapy.co.uk/shop Subscribe to the Garage Therapy YouTube Channel for more GT Framework videos covering detailing processes, chemistry, products, techniques and professional car care. #GTFrameworkTheWheelCleaningProcess #GTFramework #WheelCleaningProcess #GTWheelCleaningProcess #GarageTherapyWheelCleaning #GarageTherapy #WheelCleaning #HowToCleanWheels #CleanWheels #AlloyWheelCleaning #WheelDetailing #CarDetailing #Detailing #CarCare #BrakeDustRemoval #IronFalloutRemoval #TyreCleaning #TyreDetailing #WheelShampoo #IronOxide #GTWheelMitt #GTWheelBucket #GTUltraSoftBrush #GTTyreBrush #GTTyreSerum #DetailingTutorial #DetailingTips #SafeWheelCleaning #ProfessionalDetailing
