Trace the path of the 1880s South African Gold Rush, from misty waterfalls to forgotten ghost towns in Mpumalanga. Journey through the eastern Transvaal, following the route taken by prospectors in the 1880s. We visit the scenic MacMac Falls, named for the Scottish heritage of those early pioneers, and stand at the edge of God's Window to look out over the ancient landscape. This is a story of ambition, conflict, and the remnants of a fever that changed the region forever. Our route explores the Panorama Route’s most iconic sites, including the cascading Lisbon, Berlin, and London Falls, alongside the vast Blyde River Canyon. We also document the history of forgotten settlements like Leydsdorp and the site of the final stand at Long Tom Pass, where the gold fever eventually gave way to the Anglo-Boer War.
