They settled deep in the mountains to stay away from worldly conflicts. Without modern heavy machinery, they built an entire settlement inside solid rock, chipping away bit by bit only with hand tools. To this day, no one can confirm the exact construction era. Some trace it back to the Eastern Han Dynasty, while others believe it was built during the Ming or Qing Dynasties. There are no inscriptions left on stone to record its history. Nobody knows which generation of ancestors spent enormous effort carving these dwellings. They endured turbulent times on these dark, dangerous cliffs and protected their peaceful refuge.
