Medal of Honor Mistake: Veteran’s Grave Marker Isn’t What It Seems

A few weeks ago, while cleaning government issued grave markers with my son, I discovered something I never expected: a headstone claiming a Medal of Honor that the veteran never received. What followed was a detailed investigation into cemetery records, service documents, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, and the Veterans Administration. The truth was evident, but what to do was more complicated than I imagined. This video explains how a clerical error from the 1980s likely led to an inaccurate inscription on a veteran’s bronze marker, why oversight was so limited during that era, and how modern headstone applications are now carefully vetted. I also show the full cleaning process, explain the science behind clear coat failure on bronze markers, and discuss why this veteran deserves respect even though his marker contains a significant mistake.
