#VietnamWar #GunTrucks #VietnamVeterans They were truck drivers, not trained gunners. But when the ambushes began, they had no choice but to fight. In 1967, truck companies of the 8th Transportation Group were moving vital supplies from Qui Nhon along Highway 19 into the Central Highlands, crossing the An Khe Pass and Mang Yang before reaching Pleiku. This is the story of the men behind those convoys—their daily life in a transportation company, what it was like to make a convoy run from inside the cab, how improvised gun trucks were built and operated, and what it meant to travel roads where an ambush could happen at any moment. Among the many gun trucks constructed during the Vietnam War, only one original example returned to the United States: “Eve of Destruction,” now preserved at the U.S. Army Transportation Museum at Fort Eustis, Virginia. #VietnamWar #GunTrucks #VietnamVeterans #USArmy #TransportationCorps #Convoy #MilitaryHistory
