Vision Inspection and Thread Checking Automation

Compass Automation designed, built, and installed this custom inspection system for Mitchel & Scott Machine Company. Operation of the cell can be broken down into 6 distinct steps all happening within the specified 15 second cycle time: 1. Fanuc Robot picks the part from the v-nest of the machine conveyor 2. Fanuc Robot utilizes a circular air knife and mist collector to blow oil off part and collect mist 3. Fanuc places the part in the vision inspection system, and returns to the v-nest for the next part 4. The 2-axis IAI picks the part from the vision inspection system 5. The 2-axis IAI presents the part to the New Vista thread checker 6. The 2-axis IAI loads the part onto the out-feed conveyor, and returns to the vision inspection system for the next part The vision system inspects 13 features at a system repeatability of 7 microns.
