Chicago Mail Carrier Octavia Redmond: Testimony Reveals Man Behind Her Killing Was Paid $1,500

Octavia Redmond was delivering mail on Chicago's South Side when a stolen SUV pulled up behind her. Two years later, testimony revealed that the man accused of arranging her killing was paid $1,500, and the person who paid him has never been named. On July 19, 2024, 48-year-old letter carrier Octavia Redmond was killed on her route in West Pullman. Nothing was taken from her. Within a day, the getaway SUV was found burned in a field. What investigators uncovered next pointed to something far more organized than a street robbery: a failed attempt the day before, a photograph used to identify her, and a vehicle cleaned before it was set on fire. In this documentary, we follow the investigation step by step, from surveillance footage and GPS data to an arrest in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Then a getaway driver's grand jury testimony changed the case, and a middleman was arrested more than two years later. We also look at the wave of attacks on Chicago letter carriers, and at why Octavia's case never fit that pattern. The case is still moving through the courts.
