// Recommended activities for THE HELPER Play Kit to BOOST speech, language, pragmatic and cognitive development skills:
Hidea and seek / search and find action cards, flowers, or tokens
Increase MLU (mean length of utterance) by listening to what your child is saying about what THEY are doing and adding on ONE word! (i.e. child: "WASHING" you: "Washing HANDS!")
Fill in the blanks/ Verbal Routines: "up, up, up, DOWN!" "Ready, set, __"
Increasing Attention Span by creating an obstacle course or placing pieces inside the tunnel and having your child crawl through to get one piece at a time!
Learn to build - cognitive development by deconstructing the puzzle prior to putting the pieces in - deconstruct the tower/house/etc one at a time and teach adding 1 piece and following fine motor actions by adding one block at a time to build / construct for imaginative play
Turn Taking - take turns putting flowers in, smelling the flowers, or filling up the matching "dot catcher" and model "mommy's turn" "jacob's turn" etc
Requesting - put pieces out of reach or give your child one at a time - or provide an option for them to choose one to make a request (with and without modeling)
Build receptive language skills: model and say simple verbal instructions (or multi-step) build on concepts by identifying colors / shapes / sizes / categories and prepositions while playing!
Build expressive language skills by describing pretend play scenes using pretend sink, block set and actions on cards!
Build fine motor skills by letting your child open the flaps on the book and turn pages!
