LUNDY ISLAND | SEPTEMBER 2026 — SEALS, WRECKS & WILD DIVING Far out in the Bristol Channel, surrounded by open water and battered by the Atlantic, lies Lundy Island — a place where the sense of adventure begins the moment you leave the mainland. In September 2026, we headed to Lundy for a week of diving with Lundy Diving, exploring some of the island's spectacular underwater scenery, historic wrecks and abundant marine life. And then there were the seals... At Gannets Bay, a group of incredibly playful Atlantic grey seals joined us underwater. Curious, energetic and seemingly fascinated by the divers, they turned an already spectacular dive into one of those encounters that stays with you long after you've left the water. We also descended onto the historic wrecks of the Iona II and Carmine Filomena, exploring their remains among Lundy's dramatic underwater pinnacles, reefs and rocky walls. With the Atlantic rolling above us and the island disappearing into the blue-green depths, every dive offered something different. But Lundy isn't just about what happens beneath the surface. For the week, we stayed together at Millcombe House, a remarkable seven-bedroom villa built in 1835 and now cared for by the Landmark Trust. With its historic character, remote island setting and spectacular surroundings, it was the perfect base for a diving expedition. As daylight faded, the diving stories continued over food and drinks at the Marisco Tavern. Great company, good food, a few well-earned drinks and the unique atmosphere of an island after the last boat has left made the evenings just as memorable as the dives. Wild seas. Historic wrecks. Dramatic underwater landscapes. And seals that clearly hadn't read the rules about keeping their distance. This was Lundy Island.
