Making My Phone Boring Was a Business Decision
I deleted almost every app on my phone five years ago. I did it because I was miserable. It turned out to be the most useful business decision I've made.
The average person spends 4 hours and 37 minutes a day on their phone. Take out sleep and work and that's most of the free time you have. I'm at around two hours, often less, and this video is about what that difference actually bought me: time to write, to script, to build things, and to make a cinematic video in two weeks instead of a month.
This isn't a "delete everything and become a monk" video. I kept YouTube on purpose, and I explain why deleting every app is its own kind of mistake. There's a difference between using a platform to publish and using a platform to consume, and once you see it, digital minimalism stops being about restriction and starts being about output.
If you're a creative person who keeps wondering where your evenings go, this one is for you.
