Movement modes are ways of moving that give dancers a physical strategy for generating movement. A movement mode is more than a dynamic. It describes a particular physical idea, initiation or imagined sensation that can be explored, repeated, developed and transformed. Movement modes are particularly useful in improvisation because they give dancers a clear way into movement without telling them exactly what movement to make.
