The Five Major and Five Minor Pentatonic Patterns for a DAD-Tuned Chromatic Mountain Dulcimer

Good melodic improvisation over a song’s chords, for some, starts with this type of methodical, analytical, and theoretical work FOR A SEASON. What follows can be a passionate accurate improvisational confidence. I know this video/topic isn’t for everyone, but for me, it’s a culmination of many years of wandering lost around the dulcimer fingerboard. Due to Covid, I had plenty of time to study, think, and practice. I hope this helps some of you as much as it’s helped me. The goal is to close the eyes and play beautiful music WITH LITTLE TO NO THOUGHT. I believe this is one way to get there. P.S. - These same shapes exist on a standard diatonic dulcimer with the added 6½ fret. The benefit of the chromatic is the extra notes, scales, chords, keys, etc. the benefit of the non-chromatic is immeasurable. May both types of instruments thrive forever!
