A Good Servant of Jesus Christ | Pastor Troy Thomas | May 17, 2026

In a world filled with competing voices, false teaching, and spiritual deception, what marks a good servant of Jesus Christ? In this message from 1 Timothy 4:1-6, Paul warns Timothy of the rising threat of those who depart from the faith by following deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons. These false teachers oppose established doctrine, inject doubt through myths and empty theories, and angle for influence through charisma alone. Against this backdrop, Paul shows that a good servant is trained in the words of the faith and the good doctrine already received. Such a servant knows the truth so well that counterfeits become obvious, follows the truth in daily obedience, and courageously exposes falsehood for the sake of others. The goal is not to win arguments or elevate self, but to remain free in Christ and to point others to the same freedom. In an age of spiritual warfare, every believer is called to be a good servant—knowing the truth, living the truth, and contending for the truth until Christ returns.
