West Bengal Political Drama: Mamata Supports Congress in Nandigram, Candidate Arrested | Rejinagar U-Turn West Bengal politics has witnessed a series of major developments ahead of the October 6 Assembly bypolls. The Election Commission has frozen the original Trinamool Congress name and ‘Flowers and Grass’ symbol amid an internal party dispute, allotting new names and symbols to the rival factions for the bypolls. In Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee’s faction withdrew its candidate and extended support to Congress nominee Milan Pradhan, who was arrested hours later in connection with pending cases dating back to the 2007 Nandigram land agitation. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody until October 3. Meanwhile, in Rejinagar, TMC candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhury initially announced his withdrawal but reversed the decision within hours.
