First Day in Kandy, Sri Lanka

It's my first day in Kandy, the cultural capital of Sri Lanka, and the weather instantly turned cool and pleasant. In this video I visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most important Buddhist sites in the world, plus the best vegetarian food in the city and a free spot worth your time. Esala Perahera festival and how to watch it for free Balaji Dosa, the best veg food in Kandy Kandy Lake and the city streets TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH, WHAT TO KNOW: Entry: 2,500 LKR per person (separate foreigner counter with ticket machines) Dress code is strict: legs and shoulders must be covered (they provide a scarf if needed) Deposit your footwear before entering (free) Carry your passport, you may be asked for it ESALA PERAHERA TIP: The Esala Perahera festival runs only about 10 days a year, around August and September. People charge up to 14,000 LKR for a reserved viewing seat, but you can watch the whole procession for free from the street. WHERE TO EAT: Balaji Dosa on Temple Street, one of the best meals of my trip. A ghee podi masala dosa costs just 500 to 600 LKR.
