Want to build epic costumes but keep getting stuck on the blueprints? Today in the Geek Garage, we are taking a deep dive into how to make custom cosplay patterns from scratch! I'm sharing the ultimate pro-secret: taking a miniature scale model and blowing it up into a massive, full-size wearable piece.
Using our mini FNAF Springtrap head as the prime example, I'm walking you through the entire process from start to finish. We'll cover how to wrap, draw, notch, and cut a perfect pattern from a mini 3D-printed model (or a clay sculpt!). Then, we'll hit the computer to do some incredibly easy scaling math, and print out a massive, life-size paper pattern right from a standard home printer.
Whether you're building with EVA foam, fabric, or cardboard, getting your template right is the most crucial step of the entire build. I’m sharing all the mistakes I made along the way so you don't have to repeat them, plus some absolute gold-mine tips from our friend Melissa, a professional foam fabricator!
Whether you're building a classic Springtrap, your own custom Screamtrap, or completely original armor, this scaling technique is a game-changer.
If this tutorial helps you level up your cosplay game, make sure to hit that Subscribe button and ring the bell so you never miss a build!
