Some people are not against you because they misunderstood you. They may have already decided how they feel about you—and no amount of explaining will change a heart that does not want to receive the truth. In “The Ops,” Bishop Omar Thibeaux teaches from the story of Jacob and Esau in Jasher 32 and explores how believers should respond to opposition, hidden hostility, the need for validation, and unresolved bitterness. Jacob tried to explain himself to Esau, but Esau’s heart had already been hardened toward him. That becomes an important lesson for us: there are times when continually defending yourself only wastes your words and your energy. Bishop teaches believers to recognize when it is time to say less, trust God with vindication, and stop seeking from people what God has already given us. The message then goes deeper. Esau had carried his offense against Jacob for approximately twenty years. When Laban spoke against Jacob, it immediately reopened the old wound. Bishop uses that moment to warn us about roots of bitterness and the danger of allowing another person to live “rent free” in our minds. How much concentration, peace, presence, and emotional energy are we giving to people who are no longer even in the room? This sermon is a call to discern relationships without becoming bitter, protect your peace without becoming hateful, stop chasing human validation, and release the people who have occupied too much space in your heart.
