A Japanese BTS fan’s quick thinking in Itaewon is spreading again online after a story from 2022 resurfaced across Korean online communities and social media. The fan, identified only as A, said they spotted flames rising from a roadside pile of trash after finishing a meal.
Because the fan was not fluent in Korean, explaining the danger was difficult. In the moment, the BTS song title “Fire” came to mind as a simple way to communicate what was happening. The fan ran to a nearby restaurant and shouted, “Excuse me! Fire! Fire!”
Restaurant staff understood the warning, allowing the situation to be recognized quickly. The story shows how a familiar BTS song title became an unexpected bridge between a Japanese visitor and people nearby in Itaewon.
